    Inspector nabbed in connection with RM1.25 million extortion case

    AN INSPECTOR was among two policemen arrested in connection with the RM1.25 million extortion case involving individuals being investigated in a cryptocurrency case.

    The other policeman arrested holds the rank of sergeant, bringing the total number of arrests so far to five.

    An assistant commissioner of police has also been held to assist investigations.

    Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain who confirmed the latest arrests under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, said a four-day remand order had also been obtained for the three senior police officers arrested earlier.

    All of them were attached to a unit within the Commercial Crime Investigation Department in Bukit Aman.

    Earlier, three senior officers with the rank of ACP, superintendent, and an inspector – aged between 38 and 50 – were reported to have been arrested in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur in connection with the extortion case.

    The investigation is being conducted by the elite crime investigation unit – part of Bukit Aman CID’s law and prosecution division (D5) – for extortion under Section 384 of the Penal Code. – May 4, 2024.
